To promote ecological civilization and raise environmental awareness among youth, the Binzhou Municipal Bureau of Ecology and Environment, partnered with Shandong Radio and Television Station and the Binzhou Study Tour Association, organized a special field trip on the morning of February 28 to Binzhou Tianying.
In the lobby, tour guide Cao Mingzhu used a sandbox model to explain the complete waste-to-energy process. Through engaging animated videos, students learned about the sorting criteria, typical items, and disposal routes for recyclable, hazardous, kitchen, and other waste. An interactive game also gave them hands-on practice in waste sorting.
The students then toured the central control room and the waste crane control room, learning about how waste incineration boilers and flue gas purification systems work. After being dumped into the waste bunker, domestic waste is piled, mixed, and fermented before being incinerated. The high-temperature flue gas from incineration is converted into steam for electricity generation. Once purified, the emissions fully comply with national environmental standards and are monitored 24/7 by environmental authorities.
Looking through the glass of the crane control room, students saw a mountain of waste neatly divided into raw, feeding, and fermentation zones. To their surprise, not any bad odour could be smelled, even at the heart of the waste processing facility. Impressed by the advanced treatment technologies and facilities, the students gained a deeper understanding of how domestic waste is processed safely and harmlessly.
By creating opportunities and opening new channels for public participation in environmental protection, the event helps foster a community-wide effort to build a beautiful Binzhou.
